Routine Podiatry
Routine podiatry is foundational care that keeps your feet healthy and comfortable — nail reduction, callus debridement, corn removal, and early detection of problems before they become painful.
Most of our patients come in for routine appointments every 6–8 weeks. Whether you can’t safely manage your own feet at home, you have a condition that needs regular attention, or you just want a professional to keep things in check, we’ve got you covered.
What’s Included in a Routine Appointment
Professional nail care — Toenails trimmed, thinned, and shaped to the right length — especially useful if your nails have become thickened, curved, or hard to reach. We also check for early signs of ingrown nails, fungal infections, or other concerns. See our Thickened or Damaged Nails and Fungal Toenails pages for more on these conditions.
Corn and callus reduction — Callus and corns are painlessly removed, giving you immediate relief and reducing pressure on the underlying tissue. We’ll also look at what’s causing the lesion and suggest footwear or offloading strategies to stop it coming back. More on Corns and Callus.
Skin care — Heel cracks, dry skin, and minor fissures are cleaned up and treated. We’ll recommend the right moisturisers and show you how to care for your skin between visits. See Cracked Heels for our full approach.
Diabetic foot checks — If you have diabetes, routine podiatry is especially important. We ensure your infection risk is minimised and help you to avoid diabetic foot complications with education and regular diabetic foot checks. More on our Diabetic Foot Care.
Cosmetic podiatry — For anyone self-conscious about the appearance of their feet — discoloured, thickened, or damaged nails — we offer treatments to improve how your feet look as well as feel. This includes our onsite Lunula cold laser treatment for fungal nails and keryflex nail restoration.
Who It’s For and How Often
Who Benefits from Routine Podiatry?
- Older adults who find it harder to reach their feet or manage their own nails
- Anyone with diabetes, circulatory issues, or reduced feeling in the feet
- People with thickened, fungal, or deformed nails that can’t be safely cut at home
- People who build up uncomfortable callus or corns regularly
- People with arthritis, mobility issues, or back problems that make foot care difficult
- Anyone who wants peace of mind that their feet are being professionally cared for
How Often Should I Come In?
Most routine clients come in every 6–8 weeks. We’ll recommend a schedule based on how quickly your nails grow, how much callus builds up, and any conditions we’re managing. Some people need more frequent care; others stretch to 10–12 weeks between visits.
If you’re not sure whether routine podiatry is right for you, book an initial appointment and we’ll work it out together.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common Questions
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Just the shoes you wear most often, a list of any medications you take, and details of any relevant medical conditions. We’ll do a full assessment on your first visit so we can tailor future appointments to you.
Does routine podiatry hurt?
No. Nail care, callus reduction, and skin work are painless — most people find the appointment relaxing. If something you’re dealing with does cause discomfort, we’ll talk through it and work gently.
Can I claim this on private health?
Yes, if you have extras cover that includes podiatry. We’re registered with all major funds and can process your claim on the spot using HICAPS.
Do I need a referral?
No — you can book directly with us. If you have an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan from your GP or an aged care package, bring the paperwork and we can work with that too.
