Are your child’s football boots causing heel pain?

With the start of the winter football season, many primary-school aged children will experience heel pain during or after football training.

Some children will go on to develop painful inflammation along the growth plate at the back of the heel, commonly called Sever’s disease.  Some football boots can be the cause of increased strain at the growth plate.

Most football boots are constructed without a midsole (the foam cushioning between upper and sole of the shoe). The midsole not only provides shock absorption but also elevates the heel.  Some soccer boots are now designed with a wedged, running shoe-style midsole  - reducing strain at the child’s growth plate at the back of the heel.

Our Podiatrists Samford can help you select the best football boots for your child, keeping them happy, active and running pain-free.
