CLINIC RENOVATIONS

After several weeks of numerous builders, tradies, strange machine noises and random ladders everywhere, the Foot Health Clinic renovations are nearing completion! The clinic has expanded into the space that was previously occupied by the optometry practice.  The expansion includes two new podiatry consultation rooms, an exercise studio space and a larger instrument sterilisation area.  If you haven’t visited the clinic lately, our reception area has also completely flipped (take a look at the before/after photos below!). The building team are now completing the finishing touches and it won’t be long now before the new clinic is fully functioning.  If you are passing by, call in and check out our new look.

A few special thank you’s to our builder, Rod Feather and his team from Myriad Constructions, our architects Chris and Sonia from Bligh Graham Architects, also our electrician Graham Hatch, Mark Smith from Smith & Gray Furniture Makers, and Gary Collier for help with the external building work.

Trail Running with Kim

Recently, our Podiatrist, Kim, completed her first trail running event, the Walkabout Creek 10K Trail Race, organised by Trail Running Association of Qld. Trail running allows you to see so much in such a short period of time and demands your attention to avoid things like tree roots and rocks – it’s a great form of escape and mindfulness.  Trail running can be a transformative experience, improving your agility, endurance and overall strength and fitness.  It’s also been proven to offer a variety of other health benefits, such as elevated cognitive performance, endorphin production and stress reduction.  Recent studies have shown that running has effects similar to those of meditation.  Kim enjoys trail running as a meditative practice.

Trail running is simple and easy to get into and we are so fortunate to have so many beautiful pony trails, mountain bike tracks, national parks and walking tracks to explore here in Samford.  You don’t need any expensive equipment to get started with trail running, all you need is the right pair of trail running shoes and you’re good to go.  Ultimately, trail running isn’t about the distance or pace; it’s about the experience and being outside. So, however you choose to take on trail running, know that it will take you places near and far – mentally and physically!

Shockwave Therapy

Over the past two months our Podiatrists have been able to see both the short-term and long-term benefits of incorporating shockwave therapy into our treatment options for chronic soft tissue injuries that can sometimes be difficult to settle with standard treatment methods. Shock wave (or radial pressure wave) therapy is offered as an adjunct to traditional forms of treatment (e.g. exercises, footwear, orthoses, dry needling, joint mobilisations etc) as it improves blood flow to the injured area and speeds up the body’s regenerative healing process.  Specifically, we have seen many patients with stubborn, long-standing plantar fasciitis and achilles tendonitis to have excellent results with this form of treatment.
