Joint hypermobility is often referred to as ‘double jointedness’ or ‘floppy joints’.

It occurs when joints have greater movement than normal for the child’s age.  Joint hypermobility tends to run in families and is common in childhood with up to 15% of children affected.

Common symptoms of Joint Hypermobility in children include:

  • Joint pain, worse after physical activity;
  • Leg muscle fatigue and pain;
  • Night time leg pain that disturbs sleep;
  • Flat feet or collapsed arches;
  • Poor balance, coordination or clumsiness;
  • Joint dislocations;
  • Sport refusal;
  • Difficulty coping with walking normal distances.

If your child has symptoms of joint hypermobility or you are concerned about your child’s foot posture, see our experienced paediatric podiatrists for a kid’s foot check-up.

We love keeping kids happy, healthy and active!
